RAMA: Dear Vaidehi, don’t feel sad. Our elders can’t bear to leave us, but routine work has to be attended to; it robs householders of their freedom. That’s why your people had to go back, leaving our palace seeming so empty.

SITA : I know my Lord, I know.  But separation from one’s near and dear does cause sadness.

RAMA: It does happen! Such occurrences, so much a part and parcel of life, weigh heavy on our hearts. Disgusted with such misery, unavoidable in worldly life, the wise give up everything and retire to live peacefully in the forest.
